The Greatest Star: A Happily Ever After Talent Show

October 26, 2024 at 2pm

Crea – The Music Hall | Nieuwe Acthergracht 170, 1018WV Amsterdam

The Netherlands is full of musical theater talents. Are you one of them… and are you the very best?

Then join us for our first live Talent Show electing the Greatest Musical Star in our community.

During this friendly music competition, contestants will be asked to present the musical theatre song of their choice. To spice it up, the theme for this first season will be Miscast. Have you dreamed to play Annie or Oliver but you are now too old to audition for it? Are you excited to sing a song originally written for a performer of a different gender? Then don’t hesitate any longer and show us what you’ve got

With a public vote, the winner will receive the great honor to perform their song before one of the performances of one of the Happily Ever After shows to come.

One last good reason to come: this event is organized as a fundraiser. The funds collected will be reinvested in Happily Ever After productions.

Talent Show FAQ’s

  • YES absolutely. We welcome all contestants of all ages and backgrounds, whether or not they are experienced singers or performers. We would be happy to welcome known friends but just as excited to welcome new faces. This event can actually be a great opportunity for contestants to be noticed for future HEAP productions.

  • When you register as a contestant, you will receive more information by email as well as a form to fill in. But here is a glimpse of what you can expect:

    • You can sing the musical theatre song of your choice as long as it is in line with the theme (Miscast)

    • We ask you to send an audio or video file or youtube link with the karaoke you would like to use for your performance (note that if you send a video or youtube link, we will only use the audio as there will be no video projection during performances)

    • The song should not be longer than 4 minutes

    • A maximum of 20 songs will be performed – split into 2 cohorts of 10 songs each.

    • After each cohort, a public vote will take place to elect the winner of the cohort. This winner will be selected for the final.

    • The 2 finalists of cohort 1 and 2 will perform a second time (the same song or an another one – up to them to decide).

    • Another public vote will take place to elect the big winner of the talent show.

  • We know that preparing a performance requires time. As only 2 performances will be selected for the final, we do not want to impose anyone extra work for a second song that might not be presented to the audience – shall they not be the finalists. But presenting an option is definitely an option. And we would expect a different song increases the chance of catching our audience’s attention. So this is entirely the choice of the performers.

  • Yes. We welcome soloists and duets (no more than 2 performers per song). You will be able to share all this information through the form you will receive after registration. Note that we will provide standing hand-held microphones.  If you decide to compete as a duet and are one of our lucky finalists, then your second song should also be performed by the same duet. And if you are the talented big winner, this duet will be performing during one of the performances of a HEAP shows to come.

  • We will follow a first-come, first-served policy. If a new contestant registers and submits a song that has already been chosen by an earlier registrant, we will notify them to select a different song. To ensure a diverse, engaging, and entertaining show, we prefer not to have the same song performed multiple times. With the vast array of musical theater songs available, we trust you can find a fantastic alternative!

  • Unfortunately not. As much as we love live music, it is logistically challenging to accommodate this. And in the spirit of a fair competition between contestants, we prefer that everyone sings accompanied by a karaoke track. Yet, props and accessories are very welcome. So instruments that does not require technical set up can be used during the performance.

  • We are an English-speaking musical theater community. Hence we commonly perform in English. But we welcome other languages during this talent show.

  • We are looking for musical theater talents. Hence dancing, acting, costumes, props are all welcome to make your performance stand out as long as they do not require any set up ahead of the performance. Note that we will provide standing hand-held microphones – which might impact your choreography.

  • Unfortunately not as this would be challenging to accommodate. And in the spirit of a fair competition, we believe it is important that everyone benefits from the same technical support. This said, a professional technician will be hired to magnify each performance.

  • Unfortunately not as this would be challenging to accommodate. And in the spirit of a fair competition, we believe the focus should be on the performer rather than on a distracting video. We count on your creativity and natural charisma to shine!

  • Contestants will be split into 2 cohorts – each cohort with the same number of contestants (in case of uneven number of contestants, we will randomly assign one more contestant to one of the 2 cohorts). After all performers of each cohorts have presented their song, public will be asked to vote using their phone. 1 vote per audience member… the more friends you bring, the higher chances you win.

  • Inspired by galas regularly organized and featuring Broadway’s hottest stars, Miscast consists in choosing an actor to play a role for which they are not suitable in terms of age, gender… So in short, please select a song for which you would not traditionally be cast!

  • We commit to offer the winner a chance to perform their song before one of the performances of one the Happily Ever After productions to come. As we expect some of our contestants to be cast members of some of our shows to come, we cannot answer this question just yet. The conditions in which the song will be performed will be shared at a later stage. Have a look at our page upcoming shows and auditions to get a flavor of the Happily Ever After shows coming soon.
