About us

Happily Ever After Productions was originally founded in 2008 in Los Angeles, California. It started as a Children’s Theater Company, producing musicals for children 4-17 at schools throughout the area.

After 10 years, founder Sara Watts decided to relocate to Amsterdam. In this new city, it was clear that the need for musical theater in English in this city was great. There were many theater groups that did an occasional musical, and once or twice a year a big tour comes through, but not an opportunity to perform in, or go see an English language musical at all times. Since our first production of “Into the Woods” in early 2020, our community and production quality has grown significantly. We have now produced all sorts of musicals including Working, Little Shop of Horrors, Ordinary Days, Avenue Q, Chicago, and most recently we premiered the musical Be More Chill here in The Netherlands for the first time! Our goal is to continue to grow and make quality productions here in Amsterdam, so we don’t all need to go to the West End or wait for a tour to see the big shows.

  • “Director Sara Watts takes great pride in quality and it shows. She doesn't cut corners, makes intelligent choices on what to perform and what to change from the original script and together with her choreographers what to put the spotlight on, so the performers can shine bright.”

“Choreographers Annick Huizinga & Yaël Sarioa for sure have challenged the cast. Staying true within possibilities (some of Chicago’s choreography is only for trained professional dancers and dancing anything Fosse is nothing if not perfected) to the original material by dance icon Bob Fosse, and in true Fosse style for other parts.

For instance, Razzle Dazzle in the Broadway version is full of almost acrobatic skill, which is quite a sight to behold, but this staging has done wonderfully different, yet staying true to the sentiment. They have worked hard with thetalented ensemble and it shows.

    They should be beyond proud.”

“De musical Chicago is een linke onderneming voor een amateurgezelschap, want het publiek verwacht niet alleen een flink portie hogeschool-vaudevillehumor in nummers als Cell block tango en We both reached for the gun, maar toch vooral de swingende, hete jazzchoreografie van Bob Fosse (1927-1987). Nu is Sarah Watts, de Amerikaanse artistiek leider en regisseur van Happily Ever After Productions, iemand met theaterlef, die wel een risico aandurft.”
